2020 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

Put one foot into the future, with a stellar, environmentally-conscious, wallet-friendly fuel economy and low to zero-emission driving modes. Set an example you can be proud of in the Outlander PHEV.

A Plug-in Hybrid

The Outlander PHEV is the only plug-in hybrid electric SUV in Canada that offers all-electric 4-wheel drive capability, meaning you can enjoy the confidence of Mitsubishi Motors’ rally-bred Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) even in zero-emissions EV Drive Mode.

EV Incentives and Rebates

Driving electric qualifies you for a number of tax rebates and incentives. As well as leaving a smaller carbon footprint, you could save up to $6,500 with available rebates*.

The Best of Both Worlds

The PHEV system automatically switches between three drive modes; EV, Series Hybrid and Parallel Hybrid Modes. No matter which mode you drive in, the Outlander PHEV offers incredible fuel economy with best-in-class hybrid performance capabilities.

S-AWC Efficiency

This specially engineered S-AWC system features two driver selectable settings and uses the vehicle’s twin electric motors to deliver traction to the wheels that need it most, whenever they need it.

Performance

Imagine a fuel-saving SUV with an exceptionally small environmental footprint, no compromises in performance and capability, and with all the comforts and amenities of a premium vehicle. That’s the 2020 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. The smarter way to SUV.

Featuring twin 80 HP electric motors linked to a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery and a highly efficient 2.0 L MIVEC gasoline engine, the Outlander PHEV automatically switches between three distinct drive modes:

EV Drive Mode

While in EV Drive Mode, the electric motors power the Outlander PHEV using electricity only with zero fuel consumption and zero CO2 tailpipe emissions. Enjoy a quiet, clean and powerful drive.

Series Hybrid Mode

In Series Hybrid Mode, the electric motors power the Outlander PHEV using engine-generated electricity. This provides an additional boost when more power is needed, including when driving uphill.

Parallel Hybrid Mode

In Parallel Hybrid Mode, the engine powers the Outlander PHEV, with assistance from the motors when extra power is needed. Excess energy can also charge the battery while driving.

Interior

There’s much more to the Outlander PHEV than eco-friendly performance and all-electric 4-wheel drive capability: it also comes with an outstanding array of amenities. These include 5-passenger seating with standard features like heated front seats for winter comfort and easy-folding rear seatbacks that make room for added cargo.

Redesigned Second Row Seats

It's not just drivers that deserve an upgrade – the 2020 Outlander PHEV also features redesigned second row seats as standard. Seat shape has been adjusted to improve seating support for passengers, so that everybody gets where they need to go in comfort.

Cold Weather Features

On frosty days, the PHEV's windshield wiper deicer and heated power folding side mirrors help to remove ice and snow for a clearer view of the road. Drive with confidence from the warmth of your heated front seats, with a comfortable grip on the available heating steering wheel.

Power Driver Lumbar Support

The 2020 Outlander PHEV features Power Driver Lumbar Support seating as standard. Designed to provide maximum comfort and postural support, drivers can manually adjust and tailor their perfect seating position with both power and manual controls.

Driver Selected Modes

The Outlander PHEV's three unique driver selected modes allow you to directly influence your vehicle's performance according to your needs. Force the engine to charge the lithium-ion battery pack up to 80% capacity in Battery Charge Mode. On highways, activate Battery Save Mode to conserve energy. And, reduce fuel consumption and maximize electricity usage with EV Priority Mode.

Safety

Mitsubishi Motors has assembled a wide range of safety technologies to help ensure you travel safely wherever life’s journeys lead you. This begins with a Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body, utilizing high tensile strength steel and crumple zones that absorb and disperse energy during high-impact collisions. Strategic reinforcements at key body points complement its side-impact door beams, giving your Outlander PHEV a stable, secure base that’s worth its weight in safety. And the story continues inside with even more features, including 7 standard airbags, an available Multi View Camera System (MVCS) and the latest driver-assistance technologies.

7 Standard Airbags

Help protect you and your passengers in a variety of collision situations. Protection includes dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, side-impact curtain airbags (front and rear) and a driver’s knee airbag.

Multi View Camera System (MVCS)

Creates a virtual 360° panoramic bird’s-eye view of the area surrounding the vehicle, allowing you to navigate tight driveways, look out for objects in blind spots, and park with confidence and safety.

Blind Spot Warning (BSW)

Alerts you when a vehicle is in or approaching your blind spot. When a vehicle in the next lane is travelling at the same speed or faster in the detection areas, a warning light illuminates on the corresponding side mirror. If you switch the turn signal on, the warning light on the corresponding mirror will blink and the system will beep three times to alert you that it is unsafe to change lanes.

Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM)

Utilizes both laser radar and camera technology to determine if a frontal collision is imminent. If so, it warns you with audible and visual signals, and automatically applies moderate to emergency braking to reduce the severity of the collision and, if possible, prevent the collision altogether.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

Uses radar technology to judge distances between you and the vehicle ahead, helping maintain a safe distance. If that vehicle moves out of your lane or goes beyond your set speed, the system will resume your set speed.

Auto High Beams (AHB)

Detect light levels of oncoming vehicles and automatically switch the Outlander PHEV’s headlamps between low and high beams – a welcome safety feature when driving on dimly-lit roads.

Lane Departure Warning (LDW)

Uses an onboard camera to monitor lane position in front of the vehicle, providing audible and visual alerts if it detects your vehicle leaving the lane unintentionally.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)

Detects a vehicle approaching from the side while you’re backing up. It alerts you with flashing warning lights on both side mirrors, a buzzer that sounds in the cabin and a warning message that appears in the instrument cluster.
